Challenge
A self-initiated 20-second vertical TV commercial, made end to end: the characters, the location, the script and the film. With nothing real to film, its two women and its rooftop had to stay the same wherever they appeared, or the story would not hold.
Characters and location

People and place
before the script.
Approach
Rather than start from a script, I started from the people and the place. Characters and location came first, as still images, then the script. Fixing the two women and the rooftop before writing meant the script was written around a cast and a place that already existed, and the film had something to stay true to.
I worked in four steps. An image model gave me a sheet for each of the two women and a still of the rooftop. The script then split the 20 seconds into six shots with set cut times, and a video model made the film from that shot list, vertical at 9:16 and 24 fps.

Same faces,
same rooftop.
Result
The finished 20-second spot: diyas lit on the roof, a photo taken on a phone, fireworks over the city, the two faces in close-up and the phone itself to close, with the same two women and the same rooftop carried through it.
